Depicts an actual historical Pawnee Chief, from the Kihahki Tribe, c1890.  Esteemed Son led many braves against their traditional enemy, the Sioux together with battling against disease and dwindling tribal numbers, from interactions with white settlers.  This brave Chief fought in the last of the inter-tribal wars, at the end of the 19th century and settled his people on reservation land.
