Lipan Apaches lived at peace with the whites, with whom they came in contact in the sixteenth century. Nomadic horsemen and wild, the Lipan wandered mostly in West Texas and New Mexico east of the Rio Grande, and with the passage of time became the scourge of miners and settlers, particularly in Mexico. Among them there were great chiefs Cochise and Magnus Colorado, and well Goyathlay, What Yawns, better known as Geronimo.
