Carlo Emanuele Buscaglia & Giuseppe Cimicchi with table 54-mm
scale vignette resin kit sculpted by Nino
Pizzichemi, box art by Danillo Cartacci.
Brief
history: Buscaglia was made commander of a new German/Italian torpedo
unit, the 281st Squadron, & took part to the battle of Cape Matapan.
In November of 1942, during the Allied invasion of North Africa, his plane
was shot down by the British, & although wounded and badly burned,
Buscaglia had survived, having been captured by Allied troops and
transferred to a prisoner-of-war camp in the US. Buscaglia was asked
to fight alongside the Allies, & assumed command of the 28th Bomber
Wing near Naples, and was killed attempting to fly a new plane without an
instructor. Cimicchi was serving under Buscaglia during 1941 on the Torpedo Bomber S-79,
and is the subject of this vignette.
