British Paratrooper Jump Order, 1944 120mm resin
figure kit sculpted by Maurice Cory.
Brief history: Corporal of the Parachute regiment wearing full jump
order prior to jumping during operation Overlord in Normandy 1944
This Para wears the airborne pattern helmet, airborne camouflaged Denison
smock and airborne pattern battledress trousers. Over his Denison he wears
the paratroopers over smock which was a sleeveless smock designed to
reduce the possibility of his shroud lines tangling with his equipment.
This Para's equipment has been stowed in a leg bag which was strapped to
the leg and released just before landing using a quick release, the bag
then hung below the para on a rope which reduced his laden weight and
meant the para could carry more in the drop without causing injury when he
hit the ground as the bag would land first. His parachute is the Type X
used during the war and right up to the 1960`s. British paratroopers had
no reserve chute as it was deemed to be ineffectual during low altitude
drops. His weapon is the MKV STEN, the barrel of which can be seen
protruding from his leg bag. On his left sleeve is a gas detection
brassard designed to change color in the presence of gas. he has been
issued a life jacket which he wears underneath his harness.
