#OSN-10 Inspired by the painting by Conrad
Wise Chapman, Old Steam Navy used CAD and stereolithography to create the
submarine for this kit. It is rich in detail and precision. The Hunley's history
serves as an inspiration as it tells a story of innovation, personal bravery and
devotion to the cause these men found themselves defending. In February 1864 the
Hunley became the first submarine to sink an enemy ship; the USS Housatonic. We
thought the best policy was to offer our customers as much freedom and
flexibility as possible regarding extra options.
Old Steam's kit includes the Hunley submarine, and the Singer torpedo. The
kit also includes the wooden dock the salvaged Hunley sat on after its sinking
at the hand of Horace Hunley.
In December 1863 the artist, Conrad Wise Chapman, painted the Hunley on this
dock. His painting also inspired Old Steam Navy® to commission two custom
collectible miniature 54mm figures to guard the Hunley. They are an option and
are available for purchase from this web page. Other Hunley extras made
available for you include the specially prepared Vallejo Hunley painting
kit. The Vallejo painting kit includes 16 acyrlic colors especially selected by
Old Steam Navy®for painting the H. L. Hunley, its dock, and the two guards.
This model kit comes with a complete historical discussion, many
photographs printed in color and diagrams, plus building and painting
instructions. There are several small parts and this kit is not for children.
However, it is not a complicated build. This kit has been entered in two
modeling contests; the IPMS show in Dallas and the USS Constition Club
competition and won first place or the gold in each
